Massive Lake Okeechobee discharges to come this weekend, officials announce
This weekend, the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is going to begin a massive release of water from Lake Okeechobee for the first time in months. The lake is currently more than 16 feet high, which concerns the Army Corps.
“The volumes they’re talking about releasing starting Saturday are just going to be devastating to both these estuaries,” said Mark Perry, the Executive Director & CEO of the Florida Oceanographic Society.
