About the Event

Join us at Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center on Saturday, September 28th, to celebrate our estuaries! Bring the family and meet local reptiles and birds, enjoy kid’s crafts and games, science activities, educational booths and programs, fishing demos and nature walks. Plus, there will be raffles, photo ops with our sea turtle mascot and food trucks. We hope you’ll come explore and learn about the wonders of our estuaries!

All activities will run from 10am – 2pm are included with Coastal Center admission.

Schedule of Day's Events:

Booths & Activities - 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Engage with our exhibitor booths for a chance to win prizes, get creative at our kid’s craft area and learn more about our estuaries through fun activities. You will also have the chance to meet local reptiles and birds from Treasure Coast Wildlife Center and get a photo with our sea turtle mascot, Scuter. 

Backyard Bass Casting Activity - 12:00 pm - 1:00pm 

Test your skills at casting a fishing line and see if you can “catch” one of our elusive “backyard bass”.

Food Vendors - 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Cool off with a Kona Ice and enjoy lunch from the Wafflini's Food Truck. 

Special Programs: 

Guided Trail Walks - 10:15 am & 12:15 pm

Discover the fascinating world of mangrove forests and their connections to our estuaries with a guided nature walk to the Indian River Lagoon. 

Waterways Talk w/ Mark Perry - 10:30 am & 1 pm

Get an in-depth look at the problems facing our estuaries and the advocacy efforts to save our waters with this special presentation by Executive Director & CEO Mark Perry.

Gamefish Feeding - 11 am

Join a close-up look at the feeding habits and behaviors of some of Florida's most iconic gamefish species.

Ethical Angling Talk - 11:15 am

Test your knowledge of fish species and ethical catch and release techniques.

"Sense"-ing Nature - Journaling Walk - 11:30 am

Connect with nature through detailed observation and journaling, using creative methods like drawing and writing.

Oyster Restoration at Florida Oceanographic - 11:45 am

Learn about our oyster restoration efforts and the amazing creatures that inhabit oyster reefs.

Emerald Sanctuary Documentary Screening w/ Producer Q&A followed by Seagrass Tour - 12:30pm

Join us for a screening of the short documentary Emerald Sanctuary as it dives in to the importance of seagrass. The screening will be followed by a tour of our Seagrass Nursery to learn more about the importance of seagrass in our coastal ecosystems.
