Meet Lucas DaSilva

Lucas Da Silva and his family relocated from Houston, TX, to Stuart when he was 6. Inspired by his older brother's role as a Teen Ambassador with Florida Oceanographic, Lucas began volunteering in 2021, amassing over 60 hours to date. Living close to Florida Oceanographic, Lucas visited frequently and became captivated by the organization's dedication to the local ecosystem. “I have always felt as though it is super important to help the environment as much as possible,” he said. This aligned with his belief in the importance of environmental conservation.

Lucas started as a Teen Ambassador, helping with oyster and seagrass restoration, beach cleanups, and various teen programs. He recently completed his training as an Exhibit Guide and teaches guests about the invertebrates in the touch tank. “I love being able to teach guests about the environment and the important role we play in its future,” he said. “My goal is to help educate visitors and teach them at least one thing about each animal.”

Being part of the Florida Oceanographic Society community, Lucas appreciates the shared commitment to environmental protection. Interactions with kind and supportive individuals make his volunteering experience enjoyable. Outside volunteering, Lucas enjoys soccer, swimming, teaching children, and participating in the school running club.
