Florida will make it easier and faster to plant seagrasses, the main food source for manatees that are dying in record numbers, according to a Treasure Coast lawmaker. Rep. Toby Overdorf said the Department of Environmental Protection will revamp its permitting process to allow a general and immediate permit to plant seagrass instead of the current environmental resource permit that can take up to seven months.
