A fuel depot may be coming to Fort Pierce, though safety concerns following past fuel plant disaster loom
A fuel farm could be on the way to the Treasure Coast.
A company called Belvedere Terminals is reportedly looking at a site that would put ten fuel tanks, which would store gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, just south of George LeStrange Preserve and Ten Mile Creek in Fort Pierce.
“It’s so close to a water source that flows right through our community, so if something were to happen at the site, you literally are polluting the lifeblood of our area and that could have impacts all the way out into our local coastal waterways,” cautioned Dr. Zack Jud, the Director of Education for the Florida Oceanographic Society.
