Giving Days

This holiday season, you can make a lasting impact by supporting two transformative additions to our conservation mission. Your gift will directly contribute to vital projects that preserve and protect Florida’s coastal ecosystems and the diverse marine life that calls them home. Join us in making a difference and give a gift that strengthens our commitment to conservation, education, and advocacy.

What your generosity will support...

Spectrophotometer - $3,475

Having a spectrophotometer will allow Florida Oceanographic to evaluate the health of our lagoon and the marine species within it at much deeper level. Although our water quality program can give a general idea of the conditions in the SLE and IRL, it lacks the ability to analyze specific parameters like nutrient levels, herbicides/pesticides, and other chemical substances being introduced into our waters. Utilizing a spectrophotometer in our research lab will allow us to study the concentrations of different pollutants and nutrients in our estuary, help identify their sources and better understand how the SLE and IRL are impacted by poor water quality and how it relates to human health.

Commercial Freezer - $2,500

At Florida Oceanographic, we care for a variety of marine animals, including nurse sharks, stingrays, and hundreds of gamefish and invertebrates. These incredible creatures heavily rely on proper storage of food to maintain their health and well-being. Having a large commercial freezer would ensure that we have adequate space to store a sufficient quantity of food for our marine animals. With this additional piece of equipment, we would also be able to order food supplies less frequently, which will save us significant amounts of money on freight fees. Our current freezer does not have the capacity we need and is reaching the end of its useful life span.
